First, to explain the title of this blog. Jack Kerouac said "geniuses can be scintillating and geniuses can be somber, but it’s that inescapable sorrowful depth that shines through — originality.” As a freelance copywriter, you're nothing more than a gun for hire. Above the water line, your job is to find clients that pay well and keep them happy. Below it, there's an impossible quest for something unique. Something of lasting value. The real challenge is to tell a story or sell an idea in a way few others would. We've all got the same arsenal of 171,476 English words. It's how you pick 'em and arrange them that counts.  Is originality even possible?  Probably not. I mostly work within the tight confines of a brief, and a client's predictable tastes and conservative choices. But I have to try. Otherwise, what am I?
